There are many reasons why you are required, by federal law, to hire a certified drone pilot. I will briefly mention a few of the most prominent answers to questions we have been receiving.
First and foremost, drone pilots that are FAA certified go through a rigorous written examination every two years. The test is administered at an approved testing center. The tests consists of random questions ranging from weather to understanding aviation maps to procedures and so-on. Every test must be paid for. If you fail, you have to pay again to re-take the test. Without passing and obtaining the FAA certification, you are not allowed to fly a drone for any commercial reason. This includes flying a sUAS (small unmanned aircraft system) for a business, for your own business, for a friend who may use it for their business or even for most YouTube channels. If you are a real estate agent or roofer, for example, it is 100% illegal for you to fly a drone for your business unless you currently hold an active FAA certificate. You can be fined up to around $11,000 for each violation. We have read news articles of people being fined over $55,000 because they violated 5 regulations during a simple photo shoot! Please do not let this happen to you!
The second most important reason is safety; the safety of those on the ground and the safety of our airspace in which we fly. Florida Drone Technologies has been through the training, FAA testing and currently holds an active FAA certification. We also carry liability insurance. Safety is always the number one goal of any project.
